Checking IP Address

How do I check my IP Address?:

There are a few ways depending on what you are using.

XP Users (not going through a router). Either of these should work: In the start menu, look for My Network Places and click it. Look for View Network Connections and click. Look for the wireless connection or ethernet (Local Area Connection LAN) and left click it once, look on the left side of the screen and scroll down to details. There should be an IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway set of #s.

If this is not available, look on the connection at the bottom right corner of your screen and you will see 2 computers either flashing or have an X through them. The active one left click it once and then click Support. This will show you your IP address. If your IP address starts with anything other than 172.30.x.x (IE 169 or 192 or 10.x.x.x etc) you are not connected to our network or you weren't able to get an address from us or you are connected to someone else.

If a reboot doesn't clear this up, call the office.

Other PC Operating systems (IE 98, Me, 2000 or NTand even XP if both intructions above are not available) you can click on Start, Run, and type Command and click ok. A black DOS window will open. In the box type IPCONFIG and hit enter. It should give you an IP address for the adaptor you are using. The same instructions apply as above for IP addresses. If it doesn't have the right one, Reboot and check it again. If if doesn't work, call the office.

On MACs: OSX you will click on the Apple symbol at the top and select System Preferances, Click Network, then select the connection (Airport, Ethernet or USB device depending on what you are using in the Drop Box at the top. Under TCP/IP tab, it will show you the IP address and a button to renew the adaptor if the IP address doesn't match the suggestions above. If it doesn't work, try rebooting and check it again. If not, call the office.
